4 December 2019, Gbarnga to Gbatala, 34.1km
Gayeawuo Guest House 3,000L$ + 1,000L$ electricity (R308)

WhatsApp: Liberia is a real step backward from other west African countries. Poor, of course. Little electricity. Last night we had elec from dusk to dawn. Tonight we are paying extra at our guest house to get elec from 7pm to 11pm. Without elec, no fan in your room, a major disappointment. We did hear a radio broadcast in which someone was roundly criticizing the president, so at least press freedom is alive and well. In the gravel pic below, the two men in the background are reducing rock to gravel by hand. In wonderfully flat terrain with one gear only, Charl is working very hard, but going nowhere slowly. I am working very hard to stay patient as we average 5-10kph less than we could. 146km still to go to Monrovia.
